CM’s Wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur Sends Legal Notice to Sukhpal Khaira to Remove Malicious and Defamatory Content

Chandigarh, September 3, 2026: Dr Gurpreet Kaur, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has served a legal notice on Congress MLA and senior leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira, demanding the immediate removal and permanent retraction of what she has described as false, malicious and defamatory content circulated through social media.
The legal notice, issued through Advocate Ginnijeet Malhotra on September 3, alleges that Khaira posted and circulated graphic material, videos and commentary containing defamatory allegations against Dr Kaur. It specifically refers to social media posts on X and Facebook, including a graphic carrying the headline “BRF ਬਲਾਤਕਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ ਫੋਰਸ”.
The notice also alleges that a purported CCTV recording showing Dr Kaur dining at a restaurant was circulated with her image highlighted, which the notice describes as an unlawful intrusion into her privacy and an attempt to create a false and malicious narrative.
Dr Kaur has demanded the immediate removal, deletion and permanent retraction of the disputed posts, graphics, videos and other related material. She has further called upon Khaira to cease and desist from publishing similar content and to issue a clear and unconditional written apology, along with an oral apology through a video statement.
The notice gives Khaira 24 hours from its receipt to comply with the demands. In case of non-compliance, Dr Kaur has warned of appropriate civil and criminal proceedings for alleged defamation, stalking, violation of privacy, insulting the modesty of a woman, damages and injunctive relief under applicable law, including provisions of the BNS, 2023.
This is not the first legal notice issued by Mrs Mann in connection with the controversy. She had earlier also served a legal notice on retired Justice Ranjit Singh, objecting to allegations and statements concerning her.
The latest legal notice to Khaira adds another legal dimension to the controversy, which has also become a subject of political exchanges in Punjab.
