Mohali (Punjab), September 5, 2026: Chandigarh University felicitated more than 300 high-performing teachers with the ‘Teaching Titans 2026’ Awards on Teachers’ Day on Saturday to recognize their excellence in teaching, research, mentorship, innovation, leadership and academic contributions across various award categories.
The awards were conferred upon teachers for their sustained academic and professional contributions towards strengthening student outcomes, advancing research and innovation and contributing to the University’s academic and institutional growth.
The awards ceremony was presided over by Chancellor Chandigarh University and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu. Among the other dignitaries present were Pro-Chancellor, Chandigarh University, Damandeep Kaur Sandhu, Prof. (Dr.) RS Bawa, Advisor to Chancellor, Chandigarh University, Prof. (Dr.) SS Sehgal, Registrar, Chandigarh University,
and Navjot Singh Miglani, Executive Director HR, Chandigarh University along with senior academic and administrative leadership of the university. The Teaching Titans 2026 Awards comprised over 300 recognitions across 18 different categories, making it a comprehensive celebration of faculty excellence across both university-wide and departmental levels.
While extending greetings on Teachers’ Day Chancellor Chandigarh University and MP (Rajya Sabha Satnam Singh Sandhu said, “Today students are highly aware and deeply connected with technology so the role of a teacher becomes even more important. Teachers should not limit themselves to impart education alone but also make efforts to connect with students to provide the right guidance so that the bond between a teacher and student gets strengthened. Teaching is distinct from most other professions, it’s like a mission that carries a larger responsibility towards society. Faculty members at CU must embrace this responsibility and work towards creating a more progressive and better society.”
“It is only due to the relentless pursuit of excellence by our teachers, Chandigarh University has been consistently performing exceptionally well in the global university rankings as well as national rankings. The role of a faculty member extends well beyond teaching students and facilitating their placements. Teachers must actively engage in discussions and innovative thinking to identify solutions to the challenges that lie ahead. The growth of any university or academic institution is ultimately linked to the growth, vision and contribution of its teachers,” added Chancellor.
The highest research honour, the C. V. Raman Award for Best Researcher of the University (Teaching Cluster) was conferred on Dr Shonak Bansal from Electronics and Communication Engineering department, Dr Homi J. Bhabha Award for Best Researcher of the University (Hybrid/UCRD) was awarded to Dr. Jashanpreet Singh, UCRD and Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Award for Best Teacher of the University was presented to Dr. Narashans Alok Sagar, Biotechnology department & UCRD.
The awards further recognise excellence at the departmental level through 60 Research Luminary Awards for outstanding research performance and 60 Star Educator Awards for excellence in teaching. Faculty members demonstrating exceptional contributions to social outreach and community initiatives were recognised through 5 Community Service Awards, while 8 Emerging Star Educator Awards acknowledge high-performing faculty members in the early years of their service. Innovation in teaching and learning was recognised through 8 Innovation Catalyst Awards, while 16 Star Team Player Coordinator Role Awards honour exemplary performance in academic and institutional coordination.
The University also conferred 8 Transformation Champion Awards for faculty-led initiatives that have brought measurable improvements in efficiency, quality or student experience, alongside 30 Best Team Player Administrative Role (Teaching) Awards recognising faculty members who have successfully done additional administrative responsibilities while maintaining their academic commitments. Further, 5 CU Value Ambassador Awards recognize consistent showcasing of the University’s core values, while 25 Special Recognition Awards honour exceptional contributions or achievements of significance to the University.
Leadership and student-centric contributions also formed an important part of Teaching Titans 2026 with 25 Leadership Eminence Awards recognising outstanding institutional leadership by HoDs, Deans and Directors, 10 Students’ Favourite Teacher Awards based on student voting and 8 Best Mentor Awards recognising faculty members for effective mentoring and supporting improvements in students’ academic performance, attendance and placement readiness. The awards also include 8 Examination Star Awards for exemplary contribution to examination and evaluation processes.
