AAP Women’s Wing holds protest in Samrala over alleged assault on elderly Dalit woman at Akali Dal office

Samrala (Punjab), September 5, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Women’s Wing on Saturday staged a massive protest outside the SDM office in Samrala over the alleged assault and humiliation of an elderly Dalit woman inside a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) office.
Thousands of women participated in the district-level protest led by AAP Punjab Women’s Wing president and Moga MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora. Ludhiana Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and several other women leaders also joined the demonstration.
The protesters raised slogans against the Badal family and those allegedly involved in the incident. They also burnt an effigy of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal while questioning the alleged silence of Sukhbir Badal and SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal over the matter.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora referred to videos of the alleged incident and claimed that the elderly woman was assaulted by other women inside the Akali Dal office.
According to Arora, the woman had allegedly referred to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann as being like her son, following which she was told that the office belonged to the Badal family and that she would be beaten if she mentioned Mann’s name there.
Calling the alleged incident “shameful”, Arora said that no political office was above the law and that nobody had the right to take the law into their own hands.
She questioned why the police were not called if there was any disagreement with the woman, instead of allegedly calling her into the office and assaulting her.
Arora further alleged that the incident reflected political hostility towards Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. She said the AAP Women’s Wing would stand with women facing violence, threats or humiliation, irrespective of their political affiliation.
The AAP leader also accused the SAD and Congress of having pursued divisive politics for political gains, claiming that people in Punjab had rejected such politics.
Arora demanded an impartial investigation and strict legal action against anyone found responsible for the alleged assault. She also appealed to the concerned Police Commissioner, SSP and Additional Deputy Commissioner to ensure that the matter is investigated fairly and that appropriate action is taken according to law.
The allegations regarding the assault and the circumstances surrounding the incident are subject to investigation.
