Punjab Teacher Dr Dinesh Kumar honoured with National Teachers’ Award by President Murmu

New Delhi, September 5, 2026: On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu honoured Dr Dinesh Kumar, a Physics teacher from Patiala, Punjab, with the prestigious National Teachers’ Award at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Dr Kumar, who teaches at Government Victoria Girls Senior Secondary School, Patiala, is the only teacher from Punjab to receive the National Teachers’ Award this year.
Known for using technology and innovative teaching methods to overcome resource constraints, Dr Kumar developed a ‘Virtual Physics Lab’ through computer programming, enabling students to conduct and understand practical experiments online even in the absence of physical laboratory equipment.
He has also developed more than 100 teaching aids to make Physics easier and more engaging for students. In addition, Dr Kumar has provided free coaching to students from economically weaker sections, helping several of them qualify for competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET.
President Murmu presented Dr Kumar with a silver medal, citation and prize money in recognition of his contribution to education and innovative teaching.
Dr Kumar’s achievement has brought special recognition to Punjab’s government school education system and highlights the impact of innovative teaching in overcoming limitations of resources.
