Mohali clinch U-19 girls cricket title at 70th Punjab State Inter-District School Games
Ferozepur, September 25, 2026: SAS Nagar (Mohali) emerged champions in the Under-19 Girls Cricket category at the 70th Punjab State Inter-District School Games (2026-27), defeating Kapurthala in the final held in Ferozepur on Thursday.
The state-level cricket competitions, organised by the Punjab School Education Department under the leadership of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, were held from September 22 to 25 with the aim of promoting sports among students, nurturing sporting spirit and providing emerging talent with opportunities to excel.
District Education Officer (Secondary Education), Ferozepur, Munila Arora, and Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary Education) and National Awardee Dr Satinder Singh attended the concluding ceremony as chief guests and encouraged the participating players.
Giving details of the tournament, DM Sports Akash Kumar and Lecturer Dalbir Singh said teams from different districts participated with enthusiasm, discipline and sportsmanship.
In the final, SAS Nagar (Mohali) faced Kapurthala. Batting first, Mohali scored 132 runs in the allotted 15 overs. Pavni Kang starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 94 off 55 balls to provide a strong foundation to her team's total.
Chasing the target, Kapurthala managed to score 106 runs, enabling Mohali to register a convincing victory and lift the state-level title. Kapurthala finished runners-up, while Ludhiana defeated Moga in the third-place match to secure the bronze position.
At the closing ceremony, players of the winning, runners-up and third-place teams were presented medals, while trophies were awarded to the winner and runners-up.
Observer Sandeep Kumari appreciated the arrangements made by the Ferozepur district administration for hosting the state-level event and said that the facilities provided a conducive sporting environment for the players.
DEO Munila Arora and Deputy DEO Dr Satinder Singh, congratulated the winning and other participating teams and wished the players success in their future endeavours. She also encouraged those selected for the national-level competitions to work harder and prepare diligently. They said, such competitions provide students with an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent. He appreciated the sportsmanship and talent displayed by the girls throughout the tournament.
