Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma appointed Kullu Deputy Commissioner after 51 days

Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), September 25, 2026: The Himachal Pradesh government has appointed 2016-batch IAS officer Dr Amit Kumar Sharma as the new Deputy Commissioner of Kullu, ending a nearly 51-day period during which the post was being held as an additional charge.
The post of Deputy Commissioner had been held as an additional charge following an administrative reshuffle in August 2026. The district administration’s official website currently lists Surjeet Singh Rathore, HPAS, as the officer holding additional charge of Deputy Commissioner.
Dr Amit Kumar Sharma, a Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS officer, has previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Kinnaur.
He has also held positions including Block Development Officer (BDO), Pachhad; Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sundernagar and Bhoranj; Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Una; and served in the State Electricity Board.
His appointment comes during the ongoing tourist season, when Kullu district faces increased administrative demands related to traffic management, tourist facilities, law and order, infrastructure and public services in areas including Manali, Solangnala, Rohtang, Kasol and Manikaran.
Disaster management will also remain a key responsibility for the new Deputy Commissioner, as the district remains vulnerable to monsoon-related disruptions affecting roads, bridges, drinking water and electricity infrastructure.
Earlier, the state government had transferred several IAS officers, including then-Kullu Deputy Commissioner Anurag Sharma, in August 2026. Following the transfer, Surjeet Singh Rathore was given additional charge of the post.
With Dr Amit Kumar Sharma’s appointment, Kullu now has a regular Deputy Commissioner.
