Punjab Visit: Amit Shah’s big statement, AAP Govt’s poor governance responsible for state’s woes

Jalandhar (Punjab), September 30, 2026: Ahead of his visit to Jalandhar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over Punjab’s drug problem, alleging that poor governance and administrative lapses under the state government were responsible for the worsening situation.
Shah is scheduled to attend the concluding programme of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ in Jalandhar on Wednesday. The 13-day campaign, launched on September 18, covered all 117 Assembly constituencies and nearly 4,000 km across the state before culminating in Jalandhar.
Shah said the people of Punjab were fighting a decisive battle against the drug menace. During his visit, he is also scheduled to meet families affected by drug abuse and hear about their experiences.
“I am not coming here today merely as a leader, but as a member of your own family to share your pain and sorrow,” Shah said, referring to his interaction with affected families.
The BJP launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ to create awareness about drug abuse and mobilise people against the menace. The campaign also highlighted issues of law and order and governance in Punjab.
Shah said the Centre would take steps to disrupt the drug supply chain in Punjab and strengthen the efforts of central agencies to check cross-border smuggling.
