Chitkara University Unrest: Patiala police arrest another accused, three held so far

Patiala (Punjab), October 3, 2026: Patiala Police have arrested another person in connection with the student unrest at Chitkara University, Rajpura, during the intervening night of September 25 and 26, taking the total number of arrests in the case to three.
The latest accused has been identified as Parth Mehta, a resident of Fatehabad, Haryana. According to the police, he was allegedly involved in circulating fake and misleading messages on social media to provoke and instigate students.
The police said the accused was also allegedly involved in activities related to damage to public property and obstruction of public servants while they were performing their official duties.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered at Police Station Banur, after which a detailed investigation was launched.
Earlier, police had arrested Himanshu, a resident of Nangal, and Aryan, a resident of Ambala, in connection with the case.
During the investigation, Parth Mehta's name allegedly emerged in connection with the circulation of misleading information through various social media platforms and other activities linked to the unrest. Police said he has been booked in the same FIR under relevant provisions of law.
The investigation is continuing to identify other persons allegedly involved in spreading misinformation, instigating students, damaging public property and obstructing public servants. Police said further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
Patiala Police said it remains committed to maintaining peace and public order.
