Amargarh (Punjab), October 4, 2026 - Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today appealed to Punjabis to choose the right chief minister to take Punjab ahead, asserting if they wanted speedy development coupled with new age agriculture and employment models then he was most fit for the job.
The SAD president was addressing a mammoth Punjab Bachao rally here during the course of which he congratulated the party’s new constituency incharge Jassi Manvi for rising to the occasion after former party leader Iqbal Singh Jhundan betrayed the SAD. He also appealed to the voters of Amargarh to ensure Jassi’s victory in coming Vidhan Sabha polls.
He also announced that Malerkotla would be made a heritage city once the SAD formed the government in 2027 and that a medical and veterinary college would be established in the district. Mr Badal also congratulated the men and women hockey teams for bagging golds in the Asian games and said this was a result of the astro turfs created by the erstwhile SAD government.
Asserting that Punjabis deserved a chief minister who could deliver, Mr Sukhbir Badal said “both Capt Amarinder and Bhagwant Mann have failed you. Bhagwant Mann has not only reneged on his promises but is also playing a cruel joke on you by trying to regale you with jokes instead of resolving serious issues like the drug menace and collapse of law and order”. He said the seriousness of the present day competitors for the top post in 2027 could be seen from their claim to fame. “Charanjit Channi asserts he can milk goats while Bhagwant Mann brags he can repair a cycle tyre puncture in dark”. Urging people to consider them only if they wanted such task from them, Mr Badal said “if you want to put Punjab back on the track of development then I am the man for you”.
Asserting that Punjab had been pushed to a new low by the Aam Aadmi Party government, Mr Badal said “they are looting the State with both hands. The Enforcement Directorate is already probing corruption in postings and transfers in the CM office. The CM’s wife is herself embroiled in a Rs 5 crore corruption deal to let off a serial rapist. On top of this Rs 6,000 crore has been spent on advertisement, including spending Rs 500 crore to paste Bhagwant Mann’s face across the State proclaiming him as Imaandar CM. Anyone honest does not need to make proclamations”.
Mr Badal also spoke on how industrialists had come up to him and told him that the AAP government was forcing them to cough up amounts between Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore each as election funds. Asserting that people were quiet right now, Mr Badal said “they will come out in the open once the model code of conduct is enforced and teach a befitting lesson to all AAP leaders”.
Assuring the people that the SAD was committed to eradicating the drug menace once and for all, the SAD president said “we will come out with a new law in our first cabinet meeting once we form the government and ensure drug traffickers are not able to secure bail for ten years. Simultaneously all their property will be seized by the State”.
Mr Badal also spoke on how the chief minister had ignored the area despite promising to use his “green pen” to help bring development in villages. “You were fooled into believing that MSP would be given on all crops and that farmers would get compensation of Rs 50,000 for crop loss in advance before girdwari was done”. He said the chief minister had also fooled people into believing a medical college would come up in Sangrur after conducting a sham exercise of laying a foundation stone.
Senior leaders who spoke on the occasion included Arvind Khanna, Master Tejinder Singh Sanghreri, Ranjit Singh Katron, Paramjit Kaur Virk, Beant Kaur Khaira, Gurpreet Singh Rajukhanna and Sarabjit Singh Jhinjher. EOM Jangveer Singh.
