Chandigarh, October 10, 2026: Newly appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Pargat Singh will formally assume charge at a ceremony at Punjab Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh on Sunday, October 11, at 10 am.
Preparations for the event have been completed, with senior party leaders, MPs, MLAs, former ministers, district presidents and other office-bearers invited to attend.
Senior Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal and Sachin Pilot are among those expected to attend the ceremony, according to the information shared by the party.
Ahead of taking charge, Pargat Singh visited Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi and Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar to pay obeisance and pray for the welfare of Punjab and its people. He also received a welcome from party workers and local leaders at various places during his return to Punjab.
In a message to party workers ahead of the ceremony, Singh called for unity and urged leaders and workers to rise above internal differences to strengthen the Congress at the grassroots level.
He said grassroots workers were the party’s real strength and called on the cadre to reach out to people, establish direct contact with households and communicate the party’s policies to the public.
Singh said strengthening the party organisation in Punjab and raising issues concerning the state’s development and public welfare would be among his key priorities.
The formal assumption of charge is expected to mark the beginning of his organisational leadership of the state Congress.
