Chandigarh, October 10, 2026:
Former Punjab Chief Minister and MP Charanjit Singh Channi will formally assume charge as chairman of the Punjab Congress Campaign Committee on Sunday, October 11, as the party steps up preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The charge-taking ceremony for Channi will be held alongside the ceremony for newly appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Pargat Singh at Punjab Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh. Both leaders will formally assume their respective responsibilities at the event, scheduled for 10 am.
Senior Congress leaders, legislators, former ministers and party workers are expected to attend the ceremony.
Channi, a prominent Dalit leader in Punjab, previously served as the state’s Chief Minister. His appointment as campaign committee chairman places him in a key organisational role as the Congress prepares for the Assembly elections.
The party is focusing on strengthening its organisation across Punjab and coordinating election-related activities under its new leadership.
The simultaneous assumption of charge by Channi and Pargat Singh marks an organisational development for the Punjab Congress ahead of the elections.
