New Delhi, October 25, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country over the next three days amid the development of a severe weather system over the west-central Bay of Bengal.
The forecast has prompted state authorities to remain alert and prepare for possible weather-related emergencies. The IMD has also advised fishermen in coastal areas to avoid venturing into the sea.
According to the weather department, coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall on October 27 and 28, while Odisha and Telangana may experience heavy rain on October 28. Chhattisgarh is likely to witness heavy rainfall on October 28 and 29.
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are also possible in eastern Madhya Pradesh and the Vidarbha region on October 29.
Rain forecast for southern states
In southern India, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep may experience heavy rainfall and strong winds from October 25 to 27. The weather conditions are linked to a low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining parts of the Kerala coast.
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall in parts of western Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh between October 28 and 31, with heavy rain likely at isolated locations.
Authorities in the affected regions have been advised to remain prepared to respond to potential emergencies. Residents, particularly those in coastal and low-lying areas, should follow official weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
The IMD has urged fishermen to stay away from the sea in view of the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
