Brutal Gurdwara Killings Expose Pakistan’s Failure to Protect Sikhs and Minorities: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal
Ludhiana (Kanganwal), 19 June 2026: National BJP leader, Advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, from Village Kanganwal under Ludhiana South Assembly Constituency No. 61, strongly condemned the barbaric assassination of Sikh caretakers Jagannath Ji and his wife, Asma Wanti Ji, inside a Gurdwara in Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He termed the gruesome incident as an attack not only on two innocent Sikh lives but also on religious freedom, humanity and the sanctity of sacred places of worship.
Grewal wrote on his social media platforms, especially Facebook, Instagram and X, that the cold-blooded murder of innocent Sikh religious custodians once again exposes the alarming insecurity faced by minorities in Pakistan and raises serious questions regarding the repeated failure of the Pakistani establishment to ensure the safety and security of Sikh shrines and vulnerable communities. He said that empty assurances, propaganda and public relations exercises cannot substitute for justice, accountability and genuine protection of minority communities.
Grewal said that the tragic incident has once again highlighted the deteriorating condition of Sikhs, Hindus, Christians and other minorities living in Pakistan. He said that the world cannot remain silent while innocent members of minority communities continue to suffer violence and insecurity.
The BJP leader further expressed shock over what he described as the selective silence of self-styled Sikhs for Justice chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and Sikhs for Justice media in-charge Jaswinder Singh Dhaliwal. He said that those who routinely claim to speak on behalf of Sikhs across the world have maintained complete silence when innocent Sikhs have been gunned down inside a Gurdwara. He stated that such selective activism exposes the hypocrisy of individuals who exploit Sikh sentiments for political agendas while remaining conspicuously absent when Sikh lives are brutally extinguished.
Grewal said that serious questions must also be directed towards Pakistan’s establishment, including the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate, the Press Information Department and the Office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, regarding the repeated failures to guarantee the safety and security of religious minorities and places of worship. He said that accountability, transparency and justice are indispensable for restoring confidence among minority communities.
Grewal further stated that no amount of propaganda, manufactured narratives or separatist rhetoric can erase the blood of innocent Sikh victims. He said that truth cannot be suppressed and justice cannot be indefinitely delayed. He demanded that the perpetrators, their accomplices and all those responsible for negligence be identified, prosecuted and punished in accordance with the law.
Grewal further urged Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Shri Tarun Chugh, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Nabin, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Ministry of External Affairs to vigorously raise this grave issue at the international level and pursue all appropriate measures under international law to ensure justice and enhanced protection for religious minorities in Pakistan.
He appealed to international human rights organisations, the United Nations, democratic governments and influential global media organisations, including ANI, Press Trust of India, United News of India, Hindustan Times, The Tribune, BBC World, CNN, Reuters, Associated Press, The Guardian, Dhaka Tribune and other responsible media institutions, to highlight the plight of Sikhs and other minorities in Pakistan and ensure that the voices of innocent victims are not drowned out by propaganda and political agendas.
Grewal said that the brutal killing of Jagannath Ji and Asma Wanti Ji must serve as a wake-up call for the international community. He said that the protection of religious minorities is a universal responsibility and that those responsible for such heinous crimes must not be allowed to escape justice.
He prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and the global Sikh community.
