Chandigarh, July 11, 2025: In a bold and unexpected move, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh conducted surprise inspections at the residences of cabinet colleagues and the Leader of the Opposition (LOP) on Friday, under the state’s anti-dengue campaign ‘Har Shukarvar Dengue Te Vaar’.
The inspections, part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s initiative, revealed an alarming presence of mosquito larvae in desert coolers, flower pots, and bird water containers, underlining the urgent need for preventive action—even at the highest levels of government.
“Dengue can turn deadly if it becomes hemorrhagic. But we can stop its spread through united efforts,” Dr. Balbir Singh warned, calling on ministers, opposition leaders, caretakers, and citizens to join hands to make Punjab dengue-free.
He directed health teams—from ASHA workers to senior officers—to ramp up community awareness and ensure that village and mohalla-level health committees carry out home inspections every Friday from 9 to 10 am to check for breeding grounds.
Dr. Balbir Singh also urged people to take simple but effective preventive steps, such as:
- Covering all water containers
- Cleaning desert coolers weekly
- Avoiding stagnant water around homes
“This fight needs mass participation. Only then can we defeat dengue,” the Minister stressed.
Accompanying him during the drive were Principal Secretary Health Kumar Rahul, Director Health and Family Welfare Dr. Hitinder Kaur, State Program Officer (NVBDCP) Dr. Arshdeep Kaur, and other senior health officials.
