IAS officer Alka Tiwari appointed as new Chief Secretary of poll-bound Jharkhand
*New Delhi, November 1, 2024: 1988 Batch IAS Alka Tiwari has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Jharkhand with the consent of the Election Commission of India (ECI), as the state prepares for its upcoming elections. She succeeds L. Khiangte (IAS: 1988: JH), who retired on October 31, 2024.
Tiwari’s appointment brings continuity to a family legacy in public service. Her husband, Devendra Kumar Tiwari (Retd IAS: 1986: JH), also served as Jharkhand’s Chief Secretary and later as the State Election Commissioner. Additionally, her brother-in-law, Rajendra Kumar Tiwari (IAS: 1985: UP), held the Chief Secretary post in Uttar Pradesh from August 30, 2019, to December 30, 2021.
Prior to this role, Tiwari served as Secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST). She is expected to have a one-year tenure as Chief Secretary until her retirement on September 30, 2025.
