Centre extends PM Advisor Tarun Kapoor’s tenure

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), June 5, 2026: The Central Government has extended the tenure of Prime Minister's Advisor Tarun Kapoor by one year, according to an official order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
As per the notification, the retired 1987-batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS officer will continue to serve in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) as Advisor to the Prime Minister from June 10, 2026, for a further period of one year or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension allows Kapoor to continue enjoying the rank and benefits equivalent to those of a Secretary to the Government of India. The order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 4, 2026.
Tarun Kapoor, a former IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has held several key positions in both the state and central governments during his distinguished bureaucratic career. He has been associated with important policy and administrative assignments and currently serves as one of the senior advisors in the Prime Minister's Office.
