New Delhi, June 21, 2025: Starting July 1, vehicles that have crossed their legal age limit will no longer be allowed to refuel at petrol pumps in Delhi and surrounding NCR areas. This comes as part of a bold anti-pollution drive by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
Under the new rule, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will identify vehicles that have reached their End-of-Life (EOL) limit—typically 15 years for petrol and 10 years for diesel. These vehicles will be denied fuel at all retail outlets.
The regulation is expected to impact over 5 lakh vehicles currently plying on roads despite having outlived their permissible age. Authorities warn that non-compliance could lead to vehicle seizure.
The enforcement will be phased, with the first rollout beginning on July 1, and will apply to Delhi and NCR towns including Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.
A CAQM official said,“This step is essential to curb vehicular pollution in the region. ANPR-based surveillance will make implementation seamless and enforceable.”
Motorists are advised to check the age of their vehicles and ensure compliance to avoid penalties or disruptions.
