Ferozepur, October 10, 2024: In celebration of World Post Day, Class 6 students from Vivekananda World School (VWS) visited the Ferozepur Post Office near Shershah Wali Chowk on October 9. The educational visit aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of postal services and highlight the historical importance of communication through letters.
Observed annually on October 9, World Post Day marks the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union's establishment in 1874 in Switzerland, a key milestone in the global communications network.
School Director Dr. S.N. Rudra shared that the students witnessed the day-to-day operations of the post office, including letter sorting, postage stamp sales, and the packaging process. The postmaster guided the students through the various services offered by the post office and emphasized the importance of postal services in modern communication.
School Principal Tarinderpal Kaur explained that the students also participated in a special activity, sending Diwali greetings to their families via post, which introduced them to the experience of mailing a letter. Additionally, students learned about the financial services available at the post office, such as savings accounts, money orders, and insurance services.
The students further explored the origins of the word "post" and discussed how the postal service has evolved over time. This visit illustrated the ongoing relevance of the postal system, especially in connecting remote areas.
The students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with post office staff and observing the colorful stamps up close. This hands-on experience not only enriched their understanding of postal services but also fostered their social and behavioral skills, making it an enjoyable and informative day.
