Chandigarh, July 4, 2025: Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi has received a major legal reprieve after the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed a petition questioning his victory from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat.
The petition, filed by BJP leader Gaurav Luthra, had accused Channi of concealing details related to election expenses, providing false information to the Election Commission, and conducting campaign meetings without required permissions.
The High Court, however, struck down the petition citing "default"—as Luthra and his legal team repeatedly failed to appear in court during hearings.
The court observed that the petitioner did not show seriousness in pursuing the case, and stated it could not allow its time to be wasted on an unattended petition.
