Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), August 7, 2026: IPS officer Abhishek Sekar has assumed charge as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kullu, outlining a strong action plan against drug trafficking and improved traffic management as his top priorities.
Soon after taking charge, SP Abhishek Sekar said the Himachal Pradesh Government’s Anti-Chitta Campaign would be implemented with greater intensity across the district. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against drug smugglers and those involved in the narcotics trade.
The SP said the police would not only focus on arrests but also conduct financial investigations to identify and seize assets acquired through drug trafficking. He added that awareness campaigns would be organised in schools, colleges and rural areas to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse.
Appealing for public cooperation, Sekar urged residents to share information related to drug trafficking with the police without fear.
On traffic management, the new SP said Kullu, being a major tourist destination, requires better planning to handle heavy tourist inflow. He assured that an effective traffic management strategy would be implemented to ensure smooth movement for both residents and visitors.
Despite a shortage of police personnel, he said law and order and traffic regulation would remain a priority.
Addressing the media, SP Abhishek Sekar described journalists as an important pillar of democracy and appealed to media organisations to seek the police’s version before publishing or broadcasting reports to ensure accurate and balanced information reaches the public.
