Monsoon advances across 12 states; IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in several regions

New Delhi, June 8, 2026: The southwest monsoon has continued its rapid advance across the country, reaching 12 states as of Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The monsoon has now covered the entire states of Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram, bringing widespread rainfall and marking a significant step in the seasonal weather transition.
Meanwhile, pre-monsoon showers have been reported from parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. In Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district, rainfall was accompanied by hailstorms on Sunday. Strong winds also disrupted normal life in parts of Madhya Pradesh, where an auto-rickshaw reportedly overturned on the Indore-Khandwa highway during a storm.

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely in Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Eastern Rajasthan may witness strong winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 50 kmph.
Weather Forecast for June 10
Rainfall activity is expected to continue over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to experience thunderstorms and rain.
Parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh may witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kmph.
Heavy rainfall is also expected to persist across the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
The weather department has advised residents in affected areas to remain alert and follow local advisories, particularly in regions forecast to receive heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds over the next two days.
