Trudeau terms discrimination with Sikh police officers ‘disappointing’, calls for immediately corrective action

Surrey, September 26, 2020 : The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has termed discrimination with Sikh police officers of the RCMP as ‘disappointing’ and has called for immediate corrective measures on the issue.
In a statement released here, Trudeau said that he was disappointed to hear about policy of the RCMP which asks for officers to shave their beards for wearing COVID-10 safety kits. He said that though health and safety regulations are must but he was disappointed to hear about the issue with RCMP. He said that he was aware of many police forces and organizations who have sorted out issue of safety measures without creating any discrimination against individuals on the basis of their religion.
Trudeau said that presence of diverse Canadians in police forces is very important for all the Canadians and he called upon RCMP to immediately take corrective measures and said that what happened should not have happened at first place.

It is worth mentioning here that Sikh and Muslim officers of the RCMP has alleged that they are being discriminated in name of COVID safety measures and have been shifted to desk duties.
Meanwhile Public Safety Minister Bill Blair’s Spokeswoman said that office of Minister has raised matter with RCMP and it is expected this issue will be resolved soon.
