Language Deptt launches Book Stall initiative to reconnect youth with reading culture
Ferozepur, May 18, 2025: In a commendable effort to revive the culture of reading among the younger generation, the District Language Department, Ferozepur, has launched a new initiative to set up a book stall twice a month at the Town Hall Park. The initiative aims to attract evening walkers and visitors to explore and reconnect with the world of books.
Books have long been the backbone of human progress, preserving knowledge, culture, and history since the days of ancient texts like the Rigveda. More than just printed pages, books are lifelong teachers and companions that shape critical thinking, imagination, and emotional growth. However, the rising influence of mobile phones and digital distractions has distanced the younger generation from this invaluable resource, said Jagdeep Singh Sandhu, District Language Officer.
To counter this, the Language Department plans to regularly organize book exhibitions in public spaces, making literature accessible and appealing once again. The first stall, set up under the leadership of Chetan Kumar, the Sales In-charge of the department, received positive public response.
The department appeals to parents, teachers, and community leaders to encourage children to read, visit libraries, and engage in literary activities. Reviving reading habits is essential for nurturing an informed, creative, and socially aware generation.
