Kia India launches Phase III of project D.R.O.P in Punjab, Haryana to tackle plastic waste

Chandigarh, May 21, 2025: Kia India, in collaboration with the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), has launched the third phase of its flagship CSR initiative, Project D.R.O.P. (Develop Responsible Outlook for Plastic), in Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Zirakpur.This expansion aims to strengthen community-driven plastic waste management and support India’s climate and sustainability goals.
The initiative, previously operational in Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada, has already diverted over 7,200 tons of plastic waste and reduced 9,800 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions, benefiting more than 2 million people since its launch in 2023.
The inauguration event featured distinguished guests including Prof. (Dr.) Adarsh Pal Vig, Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board; Sh. Jasbir Singh Bunty, Sr. Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh; Mr. Hardeep S. Brar, Senior VP of Kia India; and representatives from the Punjab Government and IPCA.
Speaking at the event, Brar reaffirmed Kia’s commitment to environmental responsibility, noting that Project D.R.O.P. not only tackles plastic waste but also generates employment and supports municipal infrastructure.
Dr. Vig praised the initiative’s alignment with the circular economy and emphasized its importance in Punjab’s green future. IPCA Secretary Ajay Garg highlighted the success of the project in promoting responsible consumption and sustainable waste management across 8 Indian cities.
With Phase III, the project will now cover a total of 1,100 facilities nationwide in 2025, targeting the collection of 7,000 tons of plastic waste and extending its impact in both environmental and socio-economic dimensions.
