IndiGo Delhi–Srinagar Flight Caught in Severe Turbulence, Makes Emergency Landing; All 227 Passengers Safe
Srinagar, May 21 (Babushahi Bureau):
A major scare unfolded aboard IndiGo flight 6E-2142 from Delhi to Srinagar on Tuesday evening when the aircraft was struck by severe turbulence and a hailstorm shortly before landing.
The flight, carrying 227 passengers, encountered intense weather conditions around 6:30 pm as it approached Srinagar. The turbulence was so strong that cabin baggage fell from overhead compartments, triggering panic among passengers. Eyewitnesses on board reported chaos, screaming, and frantic prayers as the aircraft struggled against the elements.
The nose cone of the aircraft sustained visible damage due to hail impact, prompting the crew to initiate emergency landing protocols. Despite the terrifying conditions, the flight landed safely, thanks to the timely and skilled response of the cockpit crew.
Relieved passengers hailed the captain and crew as heroes for ensuring everyone's safety during the ordeal. "It felt like a nightmare. The turbulence was violent, and the hailstorm sounded like bullets on the aircraft body. But the pilot stayed calm and brought us down safely," said one visibly shaken passenger.
IndiGo Airlines has confirmed the incident and stated that all passengers are safe. The airline has launched a technical assessment of the aircraft following the hail damage.
Further investigations are underway to assess the extent of the aircraft damage and review weather monitoring protocols.
