Punjab Assembly Speaker meets 'The Great Punjab Robbery' team, discusses boost to Punjabi Cinema and Tourism

Chandigarh, August 7, 2026: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Friday met the cast and crew of the upcoming Punjabi film "The Great Punjab Robbery" at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat and discussed measures to strengthen Punjabi cinema and promote tourism in the state.
After watching the film, the Speaker praised its storyline, message and positive portrayal of Punjab.
The delegation included Raj Kundra, Payal Rajput, Paramveer Singh, director Saurav Verma, and Gurpreet Kaur Chadha. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on promoting Punjab's cultural heritage, regional cinema and tourism.
The film team submitted several proposals, including setting up a Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) office in Punjab to reduce delays in film certification, developing a modern film city with government support, providing incentives for high-quality Punjabi films to compete on international platforms such as the Cannes Film Festival, and encouraging films that showcase Punjab's rich heritage and values.
Responding to the suggestions, Speaker Sandhwan said Punjabi cinema plays a vital role in showcasing the state's culture and tourism to audiences across the world. He stressed that films carrying positive social messages help strengthen Punjab's identity and inspire society.
The Speaker also appreciated Raj Kundra for adopting a new look by wearing a turban, saying it symbolises Punjab's pride, dignity and cultural heritage. He expressed hope that the gesture would promote cultural harmony and mutual respect.
