Heavy rain alert issued for three Punjab districts

Mohali (Punjab), August 9, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, has issued a Yellow Alert for three Punjab districts—Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr and Rupnagar—forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning.
Light to moderate rain is also likely at some places across other parts of the state. Chandigarh is expected to remain partly cloudy, with rain or thundershowers likely at one or two spells.
Rainfall recorded in several districts has brought down the maximum temperature by 1.2 degrees Celsius, with the state temperature remaining around 3.4 degrees below normal. Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 34 degrees Celsius.
During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is expected at several places across Punjab. Rain is also likely at isolated places between August 9 and 12, as well as on August 14.
A Western Disturbance is also active, increasing the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning at some places.
