Amritsar (Punjab), March 19, 2025: The President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, has strongly condemned the anti-Sikh activities taking place in Himachal Pradesh and has called upon the state government to take action against communal elements.
In a press statement issued from the SGPC office, Advocate Dhami said that Sikh devotees often travel across different parts of the country to visit sacred gurdwaras, but it is unfortunate that in Himachal Pradesh, Sikhs are being targeted by certain individuals.
These individuals are forcibly removing the Nishan Sahib, as well as images and flags of community’s martyr Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale and other Sikh leaders from the vehicles of Sikh pilgrims. This is creating an atmosphere of fear among Sikh pilgrims.
Advocate Dhami stated that such incidents are not in the national interest.
He emphasized that it must never be forgotten that the existence of a multi-religious and multi-cultural society in the country today is due to the sacrifices made by Sikhs for the nation. He said that everyone has the full right to protect the values of their faith and to visit their religious shrines.
The incidents occurring with Sikh pilgrims in Himachal Pradesh clearly indicate that the state government and police administration are failing to fulfill their responsibilities.
The SGPC President said that the silence of the Punjab government on this serious issue is also against the interests of the people of the state. He added that it is the duty of the Punjab government to represent its people and raise the issue of mistreatment with the Himachal Pradesh government.
Advocate Dhami said that the SGPC clearly tells the Himachal Pradesh government to take this serious matter sincerely and take action against those responsible.
