Lehra/Moonak, July 27, 2025: Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goel stated that the rivers' water related to the Indus Water Treaty should be given to Punjab. He emphasized that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is fighting for Punjab's water rights.
The Minister highlighted that the Central Government should abide by its words and reconsider the Indus Water Treaty, ensuring Punjab receives its rightful share of water from the rivers covered under the treaty.
The Minister stated that the Punjab government is taking measures to prevent potential floods, including monitoring river water levels and strengthening riverbanks.
The government has prepared for flood relief by stockpiling sandbags and iron mesh, and control rooms have been established across the state. In the event of a flood alert, affected residents will be promptly relocated to safe areas.
The Minister highlighted that the Punjab government's efforts have increased canal water usage from 62% to 86%.
The government has invested heavily in developing the state's irrigation system, including laying pipelines to provide canal water to households. This will reduce dependence on groundwater and benefit farmers.
The Minister assured that the Land Pooling Scheme will not involve forced land acquisition. Farmers who wish to give their land will be provided with residential and commercial plots.The scheme aims to create permanent sources of income for farmers and make them active partners in the state's development.
The Cabinet Minister inaugurated development projects worth approximately ₹9 crore in the Lehra constituency, including the upgradation of roads and provision of treated canal water to households.
The Minister emphasized that the government is committed to developing the constituency and making it a model constituency.
The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working tirelessly to develop the state's infrastructure, promote water conservation, and improve the lives of its citizens.
