Chandigarh, February 2, 2026: Reinforcing participative and people-centric governance, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on Monday organised a Janata Darbar – “Your City, Your Voice” at the MC Office under the chairmanship of Mayor Saurabh Joshi. The initiative provided citizens a direct platform to raise their concerns and seek prompt solutions, reflecting the Corporation’s commitment to transparency, accountability and ease of living.
The Janata Darbar was attended by MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner Pradeep Kumar, IAS, Joint Commissioner Dr Himanshu Gupta, Dr Inder Jeet and senior officers from various departments, enabling on-the-spot decisions and swift directions for grievance redressal.
Mayor Saurabh Joshi personally heard grievances from residents of different sectors, representatives of market associations, labour unions, street vendors, shopkeepers and other citizen groups. Adopting a compassionate and solution-oriented approach, the Mayor issued clear and time-bound directions to the concerned officials for early resolution of issues.
A wide range of civic and social concerns were raised, including sewerage problems, waiver of street vendor fees, construction of e-rickshaw stands with basic amenities, amendments in trade and allotment policies, maintenance of parks and green belts, waterlogging, sanitation gaps, road conditions, labour wage disparities, housing issues in LIG and EWS societies, permanent sewerage connections in peripheral areas, and challenges faced by vendors and shopkeepers in city markets.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Joshi said the Janata Darbar is more than a grievance redressal forum and serves as a bridge of trust between citizens and the administration. “Every citizen deserves to be heard with dignity. Janata Darbar ensures that people’s voices reach the highest level and that genuine concerns are addressed with sensitivity, responsibility and accountability,” he said.
The Mayor directed all departments to submit action-taken reports within stipulated timelines, reiterating that citizen welfare remains the top priority of the Municipal Corporation.
The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reaffirmed its commitment to transparent, responsive and inclusive governance and encouraged residents to actively participate in such platforms to collectively build a cleaner, safer and more citizen-friendly city.
