Chandigarh, April 24, 2026: Punjab will conduct a brief blackout mock drill tonight from 8:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. as part of a civil defence exercise aimed at assessing and strengthening emergency preparedness across the state.
The drill, being carried out under the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is designed purely as a precautionary measure. Authorities have clarified that the public need not panic.
According to officials, the exercise will be limited to pre-identified areas in each district and will not cover entire districts.
The drill will begin with an air raid warning signal, to be broadcast through sirens with a high-low pitch for approximately two minutes. Residents in the designated areas have been advised to switch off all non-essential lights during the blackout period.
Officials also assured that essential services will remain fully operational throughout the exercise.
