CBI books Senior IRS officer, wife in Rs 4.57-crore disproportionate assets case

Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 3, 2026– The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Amit Singal and his wife Anupama Singla, also an IRS officer, in connection with alleged possession of disproportionate assets worth ₹4.57 crore during his service tenure.
According to officials, the FIR was filed on April 27 by the CBI’s Mumbai unit based on a complaint from a CBI inspector posted with the anti-corruption branch in Chandigarh. The alleged irregularities are stated to have taken place between April 2018 and May 2025.
During the period under investigation, Amit Singal was serving as Additional Director General in the Directorate General of Tax Services under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), New Delhi, while his wife Anupama Singla was posted as Commissioner of Income Tax under the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), New Delhi.
The CBI has alleged that Amit Singal amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income by approximately 139.15 per cent. His wife has also been named in the case for allegedly abetting the offence.
The FIR states that the alleged offences span across Maharashtra and New Delhi and have been registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act, relating to unlawful enrichment by a public servant during the course of official duties.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
