Chandigarh, May 3, 2026 – High-velocity winds accompanied by heavy rainfall early morning led to major power supply disruptions in Chandigarh after the failure of supply from the 220kV Mohali substation and 66kV BBMB substation.
The strong winds also uprooted several trees and broke heavy branches, which fell onto overhead power lines, causing outages in multiple parts of the city.
According to officials, the sudden impact resulted in significant damage to the city’s electricity infrastructure, leading to widespread interruptions in supply.
Acting swiftly, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) restored power to most affected areas within one to two hours by re-routing supply through alternate sources from the 220kV Hallo Majra and 220kV Kishangarh substations.
Simultaneously, CPDL deployed patrolling and restoration teams across affected locations to assess and repair damaged lines. On-ground teams worked to remove fallen trees and branches before initiating restoration work on a war footing.
Senior CPDL officials closely monitored the restoration process from the command centre, ensuring coordination between field teams and operational units. Additional manpower, tools, and technical resources were also deployed at key locations to speed up recovery.
Officials said dedicated teams worked under challenging conditions to repair damaged infrastructure, helping restore electricity supply in most areas in the shortest possible time.
CPDL also maintained continuous communication with consumers through helplines and WhatsApp updates, providing real-time information on restoration progress and addressing complaints.
While most areas saw quick restoration, some localities experienced extended outages due to severe damage, requiring detailed repair work and safety inspections before supply could be fully restored.
