Dhuri (Punjab), June 30, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a ₹54.76-crore Road Over Bridge (ROB) in Dhuri, saying the project will ease traffic congestion, improve regional connectivity and boost the area's socio-economic development.
The two-lane ROB with a footpath will be constructed over the Sheron Distributary near Level Crossing No. 62-A on the Rajpura–Bathinda railway line. The project is being funded by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) and is targeted for completion by October 2027.
Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister said all statutory approvals, including those from the Railways, Forest Department, BSNL and PSPCL, have been secured, enabling timely execution of the project.
Mann said the bridge would significantly improve traffic movement in Dhuri and adjoining areas while ensuring safer and faster connectivity. He added that the project has been designed to keep the lower railway crossing operational to avoid disrupting local businesses and maintain connectivity within the town.
Calling it a long-pending demand of residents, the Chief Minister described the project as an engineering achievement as it is being constructed over both an active railway line and a canal.
Highlighting other development initiatives in the constituency, Mann said a modern public library has been established in Dhuri and the local canal has been covered and converted into a public recreational space.
The Chief Minister also announced that the Maavan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana will be launched from Dhuri on July 1. Under the scheme, eligible women will receive ₹1,000 per month, while women belonging to Scheduled Castes will receive ₹1,500 per month through direct benefit transfer.
He said more than 40 lakh women have already registered for the scheme and nearly 97 per cent of women in Punjab are expected to benefit. The state government has allocated ₹9,300 crore for the initiative in the current Budget.
Reviewing the state's power situation, Mann said Punjab had successfully met a peak electricity demand of over 17,000 MW, with all thermal power plants operating at full capacity and paddy transplantation progressing smoothly.
Referring to recent developments involving the Akal Takht, the Chief Minister reiterated that the institution remains supreme for him and his family. He said the Punjab Government would honour its directives and hold a detailed discussion on the matter in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
Earlier in the day, Mann inaugurated an Olympic-standard swimming pool at the War Heroes Stadium in Sangrur and flagged off 50 mobile LED documentary vans that will travel across Punjab to showcase the life and teachings of Guru Ravidass as part of the 650th Parkash Purab celebrations.
