Who Will Be Punjab's Next DGP? UPSC Panel shortlists three names

Chandigarh, June 30, 2026: The race for the post of Punjab's next Director General of Police (DGP) has entered its final stage, with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) reportedly shortlisting three senior IPS officers for the top post.
According to sources, the UPSC's empanelment committee met on Tuesday and finalised a panel of three officers for submission to the Punjab Government.
The shortlisted officers are incumbent Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, Sharad Satya Chauhan and Harpreet Singh Sidhu.
Sources said incumbent DGP Gaurav Yadav, a 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, is currently considered the frontrunner for the post. However, the final appointment will be made by the Punjab Government from among the officers empanelled by the UPSC.
