‘Run for Equality’ Marathon held in Ferozepur to mark Guru Ravidas Ji’s 650th Prakash Purab
Govt celebrating Guru Ravidas Ji’s 650th Prakash Purab on large scale: MLA Bhullar
Ferozepur, September 2, 2026: A 5-km marathon titled “Run for Equality” was organised by the district administration on Tuesday to commemorate the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji, in accordance with the directions of the Punjab Government.
The marathon was flagged off from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium by Ferozepur Urban MLA Ranbir Singh Bhullar. SDM Abhishek Sharma, along with thousands of residents, students and sports enthusiasts, participated in the event.
The marathon commenced from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, passed through Sher Shah Wali Chowk and culminated at the stadium.
Addressing the participants, MLA Bhullar said that the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was celebrating the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji on a large scale across the state. As part of the celebrations, marathons and other events were being organised to promote the ideals of equality and the creation of a healthy and progressive society.
He said that sports play a vital role in keeping people physically fit and healthy. Stressing the importance of sports among youngsters, Bhullar said that encouraging children and youth to participate in sporting activities could help keep them away from drug abuse and other social evils.
SDM Abhishek Sharma said similar marathons dedicated to the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji were being organised across all districts of Punjab. He said the event carried the message of equality and encouraged people from every section of society to participate in sports without discrimination.
He congratulated all the participating athletes, children and residents of the district for making the event a success.
District Sports Officer Gurdeep Singh said that a 5-km race was organised as part of the marathon and winners were honoured on the occasion. He added that the Punjab Government provided T-shirts and refreshments to the participants.
He said the event had been named “Run for Equality” to encourage people belonging to different religions and communities to participate without any discrimination and to strengthen the spirit of mutual brotherhood and harmony among citizens.
