Enquiry Committee headed by ACS (Home) to probe into entire incident
Chandigarh, November 27, 2016: The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today spoke to the National Security Advisor Mr. Ajit Doval and apprised him of the details of the incident of Nabha jail-break and updated him on the steps being taken to apprehend the culprits.
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal is also rushing to Nabha to visit the affected jail for an on-the-spot review of the situation there. The Punjab Director General of Police Mr. Suresh Arora is already in Nabha following the incident.
The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal held a high level meeting of Civil and Police Administration including intelligence officials this morning to review the situation.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government took a series of administrative steps in the wake of the Nabha incident. A red alert has been issued throughout the state and security at all jails has been furthered tightened.
The government has dismissed both the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent of High Security Nabha Jail with immediate effect.
The State Government has ordered the constitution of an Enquiry Committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Mr. Jagpal Singh Sandhu to look into the security lapses that led to this jail break. Meanwhile, ADGP (Railways) Mr. Rohit Chaudhary has been posted as new ADGP (Jails) in place of Mr. MK Tiwari, who has been placed under suspension and Mr. S Bhupati, IPS as the Superintendent of Nabha High Security Jail.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced a reward of Rs. 25 lakhs to any person providing information leading to the arrest of these six escaped under-trial prisoners.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the Punjab Police to investigate the escape of six under-trials from the Nabha Maximum Security Jail this morning. Mr. Prabodh Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Internal Vigilance Cell would head the SIT comprising Mr. Paramraj Singh, IGP/Patiala Zone, Mr. Ishwar Singh, IGP, Mr. Nilabh Kishore, IGP/Counter Intelligence, Mr. Amar Singh Chahal, DIG/Patiala Range and Mr. Gurmeet Chouhan, SSP/Patiala. At the same time, a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the escaped prisoners and all districts have been alerted to lay nakas, conduct mobile patrolling and nab the escapees.
