CAA will make Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam a reality......by Kausar Jahan
New Delhi: The Citizenship Amendment Act, amended by the Modi Government is again in the news. The CAA was enacted by the Parliament on December 11, 2019, after which protests against it started in whole country including Assam.
Muslims were misled by the Opposition parties by stating that CAA threatened their citizenship. However, this is a blatant lie and has no relation with the truth.
Citizenship cannot be taken away from anyone through CAA, rather it is a law to grant citizenship. Since the Opposition has been repeatedly trying to portray Modi Government as anti-Muslim Government that is why protests against CAA were organised at various places by misleading the Muslims against Modi.
If the Corona pandemic had not come, the anti-CAA protests would have dragged for longer period.
Now the Central Government is going to implement CAA, but once again the efforts of the Opposition to mobilize Muslims against CAA have intensified. SP spokesperson warned to repeat Shaheenbagh in protest against CAA, many other organizations/individuals are giving warning of agitation against CAA.
The question arises from here? When there is no question of anyone losing citizenship due to CAA, then why oppose it? The Union Home Minister has clearly stated that, “Our Muslim brothers are being misled and provoked. CAA is only to give citizenship to minority people of those countries who have come to India after facing persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. “This is not to take away anyone’s Indian citizenship.”
Despite the Union Home Minister’s assurance, a conspiracy is being hatched to mislead people against CAA. The reality is that the issue-less opposition and the leaders who have so far completely failed to defeat Modi, want to use the shoulders of Muslims in their fight for Muslims.
Muslims will have to recognize this conspiracy and ask themselves whether Muslims have been discriminated against all the schemes brought by the Modi Government so far? No. Despite this, some political parties are bent upon proving Modi Government as an anti-Muslim Government for their personal interests.
As far as CAA is concerned, it is a law to grant citizenship and not to take away anyone's citizenship. Can we deny this fact that religious minorities have not been persecuted in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan?
The refugees who came to India after being persecuted from these three neighbouring countries to save their lives are being given Indian citizenship, so what is wrong in this?
The lands of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh have always been limited for religious minorities; the Government of India had brought CAA to give Indian citizenship to such persecuted people.
Obviously Muslims are not among the religious minorities; hence Muslims were kept out of CAA. But this does not mean that the doors of Indian citizenship are closed for Muslims, there are provision in the law for them too. Under CAA, there is provision to give citizenship to six non-Muslim communities who came from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 31, 2014.
According to the annual report of the Home Ministry of 2021-22, a total of 1414 foreigners from these non-Muslim minority communities have been given Indian citizenship from April 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021. The 9 states where citizenship has been granted are Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Maharashtra.
Now the Government will implement CAA on a large scale, so that the non-Muslims who have taken refuge in India after being persecuted can be brought into the mainstream by giving them Indian citizenship. India's culture has been of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, today the world is looking towards India with longing eyes, perhaps that is why Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Christians, who were being persecuted in neighbouring countries, chose India to take refuge.
If even a country with a great culture like Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam does not come true to their expectations, then who will? Along with this question, it has become necessary to reiterate here, there is no need for any Muslim to oppose CAA, this is a law to give citizenship, not to take away citizenship, hence it is important to avoid the trap of confusion being laid by the opposition.
