CTU employees face legal action for unauthorized protest at ISBT-43; FIR registered against six

Chandigarh, June 17, 2025:A protest staged without prior permission has landed several Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) employees in legal trouble.
On the basis of a complaint filed by Transport Director Pradyuman Singh, Sector-36 Police Station has registered an FIR against six named employees and several unidentified others under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), FIR No. 139.
The protest, which took place on June 16 at ISBT-43, was organized by employees affiliated with the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). Protesters were voicing discontent over CTU policies and pending employee demands.
However, the protest was held without any formal permission from the authorities, disrupting bus operations and obstructing public movement at the busy transport terminal.
The FIR names the following CTU employees:
- Joginder Singh
- Om Prakash (Employee No. 537)
- Ravish Kumar (Driver No. 124)
- Malkiat Singh (Driver No. 146)
- Hakam Singh (Conductor No. 389)
- Other unidentified participants
According to police, the protest violated established administrative protocols and disciplinary rules.No prior notice or permission had been granted for the sit-in, prompting officials to deem the gathering illegal.
The Chandigarh Administration and Transport Directorate have emphasized that disciplinary action will be taken against those who flout administrative orders or obstruct public services.
Authorities have also indicated that further action may be taken based on video footage and statements from officers on duty during the incident.
Additional individuals may be summoned for questioning as the investigation progresses.Police are currently probing the role of various organizations or unions suspected to be behind the unauthorized demonstration.
The administration has reiterated that while employees have the right to voice their concerns, such actions must follow lawful procedures to avoid disrupting essential services.
