'Operation Shield' Mock Drill conducted in Malerkotla to bolster emergency preparedness

Malerkotla (Punjab), May 31, 2025: In a bid to strengthen coordination among disaster response agencies and prepare for emergencies, the second phase of “Operation SHIELD” mock drill was conducted today at 1:00 PM at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Malerkotla.
The drill, supervised by Deputy Commissioner Virasa S. Tidke, simulated emergency situations such as air raids, fires, and gas leaks using a siren system.
The objective was to test the readiness and synchronization of civil administration, police, home guards, health services, and other departments in real-time crisis conditions.
Highlights of the Drill:
- Siren sounded to simulate air attack and fire scenario followed by coordinated response exercises.
- Emergency responders demonstrated how to provide first aid, evacuate the injured, control fires, and manage panic situations.
- Public safety protocols such as turning off lights, avoiding windows, lying low on the ground, and seeking shelter under solid structures were rehearsed.
- Officials advised that during an actual airstrike, residents should avoid vehicles, seek cover, and protect ears from blasts using fingers.
Participation:
Senior officials including Additional Deputy Commissioner Sukhpreet Singh Sidhu, SDM Gurmeet Kumar Bansal, DSP Satish Kumar, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Sajila Khan, and Home Guard Civil Defence in-charge Sajid Khan were present, along with representatives from health, local bodies, and various administrative departments.
Public Advisory:
ADC Sukhpreet Singh Sidhu urged citizens to:
- Follow the safety instructions shared during the drill in case of any real emergency.
- Avoid panic buying or hoarding, as there is no real threat.
- Do not spread or believe in rumors, especially via social media.
The mock drill aimed at realistically simulating an emergency to ensure both the public and the administration are prepared to respond effectively and safely in actual crisis situations.
Officials emphasized that such drills will continue periodically to build resilience and foster a coordinated emergency response across all departments.
