98% paddy procured in Ferozepur, 2.38 Lakh MT; DC urges farmers against stubble burning
Ferozepur, October 17, 2025: A surprise visit to the Firozshah grain market to review arrangements and the ongoing paddy procurement process, was made by Deputy Commissioner, Deepshikha Sharma. During her visit, she interacted with farmers, listened to their concerns, and also inspected stubble management practices in nearby fields. She appealed to farmers to bring only dry paddy to the mandis and to refrain from burning stubble, urging them to use machinery provided by the Agriculture Department for effective residue management.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that till last evening, 2,44,475 metric tonnes of paddy had arrived in district mandis, out of which 2,38,573 metric tonnes (98%) have already been procured. Among the agencies, Pungrain purchased 84,385 MT, Markfed 68,083 MT, Punsup 59,218 MT, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 26,867 MT, while private traders bought 20 MT. Payments worth ₹378.34 crore have been released to farmers so far, and lifting of procured paddy is being expedited.
She also directed agriculture officials to ensure timely availability of machinery to farmers facing challenges in stubble management. Reiterating her appeal, the DC called upon farmers not to burn crop residue and to support the district administration by preventing such practices in their surroundings.
DSP Sukhwinder Singh, along with officers from the Agriculture Department and other concerned departments, accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the visit.
