RTO Patiala conducts road safety awareness drive and on-road campaign

Patiala (Punjab), January 28, 2026: Patiala:As part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month-2026 (NRSM-2026) activities, the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Patiala, in collaboration with Muskaan Foundation for Road Safety, carried out two major road-safety initiatives on Wednesday to promote responsible road behaviour and awareness among youth and commuters.
The first initiative was a Road Safety Awareness and First Responder Training Programme organised for Civil Engineering students of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala.
Addressing the students, RTO Patiala Babandeep Singh Walia delivered the keynote address, highlighting the evolving challenges in the road-safety sector and underlining the importance of engineering, education and design in creating safer road infrastructure. He encouraged students to actively engage with government institutions as future professionals shaping road safety solutions.
The second initiative was a “Safe Junction Drive” on-road campaign conducted at Leela Bhawan Chowk, Patiala. The campaign focused on promoting adherence to traffic signals, respect for zebra crossings, and ensuring pedestrian right of way. DySP Traffic Puneet Singh Chahal also participated in the drive, interacting with commuters and reinforcing the importance of traffic discipline.
As part of the campaign, 200 helmets were distributed to promote safe riding practices among two-wheeler users.
