KVK promotes eco-friendly stubble management
Ferozepur, November 12, 2025: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, under Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, organised a District-Level Awareness Camp on Stubble Management to educate farmers about effective and eco-friendly alternatives to stubble burning.
The primary objective of the camp was to raise awareness among farmers about modern technologies for managing paddy residue, along with integrated nutrient management, weed control, and pest and disease identification and solutions.
Dr. Gurmail Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Ferozepur, welcomed the farmers and highlighted the activities of the centre. He encouraged them to participate in the skill-based training programmes conducted by KVK to enhance income generation through self-employment. Speaking on the theme, Dr. Sandhu said farmers are making significant efforts toward stubble management, and such awareness programmes further motivate and energize them to adopt sustainable practices.
Dr. Vivek Kumar, Assistant Professor, KVK Sri Muktsar Sahib, explained the use of modern agricultural machinery such as the Happy Seeder, Super Seeder, and Mulcher for incorporating paddy residue into the soil. He elaborated on how this practice not only protects the environment but also improves soil health and fertility. He also discussed the adverse effects of stubble burning on human health and the environment, urging farmers to refrain from the practice.
Dr. Simranjeet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), provided detailed guidance on identifying and managing pests and diseases that may arise during stubble management. Dr. Bhallan Singh Sekhon, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), shared tips on the cultivation of winter vegetables, while Dr. Divya Jain, Assistant Professor (Home Science), discussed health and household management practices for rural families.
A large number of farmers and farm women from various villages across the district participated in the camp. Progressive farmers who have successfully adopted stubble management techniques also shared their experiences, inspiring others to follow sustainable and environmentally responsible farming methods.
