Wheat Procurement Completed in 118 Mandis of Ferozepur District; ₹2016.94 Cr transferred directly farmers' account
DC appeals farmers not to burn wheat residue to protect environment
Ferozepur, May 9, 2026: Deep Shikha Sharma said that wheat procurement has been successfully completed in 118 mandis across the district, while procurement operations are still continuing in 9 mandis. She informed that as per the directions of the Government of Punjab, every single grain of farmers’ produce is being procured and timely payments are being ensured.
Giving details, the Deputy Commissioner stated that till Thursday evening, a total arrival of 800,017 metric tonnes of wheat had been recorded in the district mandis, out of which 775,674 metric tonnes had been procured. She directed officials to further speed up the lifting process in view of the changing weather conditions to prevent any damage to the precious food grain.
She informed that out of the total wheat procured, PUNGRAIN procured 242,239 metric tonnes, MARKFED procured 207,481 metric tonnes, PUNSUP procured 197,990 metric tonnes, while Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 127,964 metric tonnes of wheat.
DC further said that payments amounting to ₹2016.94 crore have been transferred directly into the bank accounts of farmers. She added that 512,885 metric tonnes of wheat had already been lifted from the mandis.
She also appealed to farmers not to burn wheat residue or stubble after harvesting and instead incorporate it into the fields to protect the environment and soil health.
