Heavy rain and thunderstorm claim 3 lives in Punjab

Sangrur (Punjab), April 20, 2025 – At least three people lost their lives and several others were injured following a severe thunderstorm and heavy rainfall that struck parts of Sangrur on Friday evening, causing widespread damage.
Sangrur Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Rishi expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and affirmed that the Punjab government stands insolidarity with them during this difficult time.
"We pray for strength to the families and eternal peace for the departed souls," he said.
Among the deceased were Charan Singh, a resident of Benara, and Pritpal Singh, from Ward No. 4, Dhuri. Both sustained serious injuries in separate incidents involving falling trees and electricity poles and later succumbed during treatment at Civil Hospital, Dhuri.
In a separate tragedy, Gurcharan Singh (68) lost his life when the shed of a poultry farm collapsed amid the storm in Majha village, Bhawanigarh. Additionally, five individuals from Dhuri were reported injured in various incidents linked to the storm's impact.
Authorities are assessing damages and have urged citizens to remain cautious during sudden weather changes.
