Bathinda, July 6, 2025: In light of the upcoming court appearance of senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Punjab Police have placed SAD leader Sikander Singh Maluka, under house arrest. According to reports, more than half a dozen police vehicles arrived at Maluka’s village in Maluka, Bathinda, and prevented him from traveling to Chandigarh.
Speaking to Babushahi, Maluka described the action as “blatant dictatorship and Nadirshahi behavior” by the Punjab government. Majithia’s vigilance remand ends today, and the Vigilance Bureau is set to produce him in court. A few days ago, when Majithia was last scheduled to appear in court, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and several other Akali leaders were either detained or placed under house arrest. This has prompted Punjab Police to remain cautious and avoid any risks today.
Maluka holds significant influence in the Rampura Phul constituency, and police suspect that if not restrained, he could mobilize a large number of supporters to march toward Chandigarh.
