Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections, Of 14411, 5305 licensed arms deposited in Fazilka
Fazilka, April 4, 2024: In the wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the district administration authorities are speeding up the deposition of licensed arms with the police, to conduct the election process peacefully. In Fazilka, against 14,411 licensed weapons in the district, 5,305 have been deposited so far.
This was stated by ADC General Rakesh Kumar Popli while presiding over the screening committee. On this occasion, SP Ramnish Chaudhary was also specially present with him.
The Additional District Election Officer said that according to the instructions of the Election Commission, the arms of the arms holders are being deposited. He said that the work of depositing weapons is being regularly monitored and wherever there is a special need, the screening committee formed at the district level reviews and decides whether to deposit weapons or not.
Analysing individual licensees is humanly impossible in a state like Punjab, the state chief electoral officer (CEO) Sibin C has also said that anyone who wants exemptions can apply to the screening committee.ECI has given the go-ahead to the existing system.
He said that there are 14,411 licensed weapons in the district. He said that if anyone does not deposit weapons without obtaining the permission of the screening committee, then strict action will be taken against such people as per the law. He said that if anyone is required under any special circumstances, he can approach the screening committee and all other firearms license holders should immediately deposit their firearms in the nearest police station or armoury. In case of not doing so, action will be taken as per legal rules.
