Booth Awareness Groups launched to promote ethical voting and increase voter turnout
Ferozepur/Guruharsahai, April 3, 2024: Under the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab, the District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Rajesh Dhiman, and Assistant Returning Officer cum SDM, Gagandeep Singh, have initiated the activation and formation of Booth-level Awareness Groups (BAGs) across all booths in Guru Harsahai. The primary goal is to encourage ethical voting practices and facilitate a higher voter turnout during the upcoming elections.
ARO Gagandeep Singh emphasized that these BAGs will comprise government employees and volunteers from various groups such as schools, colleges, the National Service Scheme, and NGOs, adhering to ECI guidelines. Together, they will utilize diverse media channels to educate voters about the importance of ethical voting, urging them to make their choices independently without succumbing to any form of inducements like money, gifts, or liquor.
To achieve this objective, a series of activities, including chowk meetings, seminars, workshops, and other awareness events are scheduled from April 6 to April 12. These events aim to raise awareness among voters about the significance of casting their votes responsibly. The members of Groups will deliver one-to-one messages to each voter of the polling station to ensure that voters cast their votes on June 1st as their prior responsibility.
Furthermore, the BAGs are empowered to promptly report any instances of malpractice observed during the election process. They will use online apps and other suitable means to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral proceedings.
