Karnal By-Poll Breaking: HC dismisses petition challenging by-polls

Chandigarh, April 3, 2024: In a huge relief to the Haryana government, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has dismissed a petition challenging by-elections of the Karnal assembly seat.
Haryana Government's Additional Advocate General Samarth Sagar said that the government had given its reply in the hearing held yesterday.
"As far as the judgment of Nagpur Court and Bombay High Court is concerned, both of them create a situation of conflict with each other, this is what we have told the court," he said.
He said that Article 151 was being cited again and again, so in this, we told the court under which conditions elections can be held under the People's Representation Act and under which conditions they cannot be held and as far as Karnal by-elections are concerned, this election can happen. He said that for now, we will have to wait for the detailed orders of the High Court.
