Shambhu / Khanauri, March 21, 2025 – A day after Punjab Police cleared the protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri inter-state borders, Haryana security forces began dismantling cemented barricades on Thursday, reopening key highways that had remained blocked for over a year.
At the Shambhu border, JCBs and other heavy machinery were deployed to remove concrete blocks from the Shambhu-Ambala stretch, which had been sealed since February 2023 to prevent protesting Punjab farmers from marching towards Delhi during the Delhi Chalo agitation.
Security remained tight as Haryana Police, using bulldozers, dismantled barriers, following Punjab's clearance of the protest sites. Officials confirmed that the Patiala-Delhi highway would soon be fully operational.
The Haryana government had fortified its border with Punjab using cement blocks, iron nails, and barbed wire to prevent farmers from advancing towards the national capital. On the Punjab side of the Khanauri border, more than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed to manage the situation.
Meanwhile, in Jind, Haryana authorities have started removing cement barriers near Datta Singhwala, while Narwana Deputy Superintendent of Police Amit Bhatia assured that efforts were underway to restore traffic flow at the earliest.
The removal of barricades marks a significant development following months of tension and road closures amid the farmers' protest movement.
